The Journal of Ancient Civilizations ( JAC for short ) is a scientific journal of the ancient world that has been published since 1986 .

The journal is currently published annually in two fascicles by the Institute for the History of Ancient Civilizations (IHAC) at Northeast Normal University in Changchun , China . The idea of the founder of IHAC, Lin Zhichun, next, the magazine covers the entire spectrum of (from the Chinese perspective) "Western antiquity" off geographically from the Middle East via Egypt towards the Mediterranean region , in time from the Hittite , Assyriology , Egyptology up to classical (Greco-Roman) antiquity .

The journal includes specialist articles as well as reviews and research overviews; Authors are both Chinese and international scholars. In 2016, the double blind peer review process was introduced for reviewing the contributions . The editor-in-chief is Zhang Qiang, while Sven Günther is primarily responsible for the editorial work .
