Joy is a small impact crater west of the Mare Serenitatis . It is located in the eastern part of the mountainous and uneven area that separates the Palus Putredinis in the west from the Mare Serenitatis.
Joy has a circular, bowl-like shape with a slightly curved edge.
Before it was given its own name by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1973 , it was referred to as 'Hadley A'. The original namesake Mons Hadley lies in a west-northwest direction at the north end of the Mondappenninen .
