Juan González de la Pezuela y Ceballos

Juan González de la Pezuela y Ceballos , (* 1809 in Lima , † November 1, 1906 in Madrid ) was a conservative Spanish politician and diplomat in London.

Life

His parents were Angela de Ceballos y Olarria and Joaquín de la Pezuela .

He expressed conservative political and literary ideas. He was the first Marquis of Pezuela, in 1833 he had the rank of captain. From 1833 to 1840 he fought as a supporter of Christina , Charlists .

During the government of Baldomero Espartero , he was involved in a military conspiracy of Christina's followers that broke out in Madrid on October 7, 1841, when it failed, he denied it.

In 1843 he became a member of the Cortes, in 1846 he became Minister for Navy and Overseas Trade. He married Francisca Javiera de Ayala y Ortiz de Urbina. Their daughter Isabel de la Pezuela y Ceballos was born on December 9, 1844. He was a knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece

In 1845 he became a member of the Real Academia Española and studied the fine arts in Madrid.

After he put down a rebellion in Madrid on March 26, 1848, he was appointed Capitán General of Madrid. In 1849 he became military governor in Puerto Rico and founded the Real Academia de Buenas Letras there . In 1853 he became military governor in Cuba. In 1867 he became Capitán General of Catalonia and stifled the Revolución de 1868 . In 1867 he became a senator. In 1872 he became the first Marquis of Chester. In 1875 he became director of the Real Academia Española .
