Juan Jover Sañes (born November 23, 1903 in Barcelona , † June 28, 1960 in Sitges ) was a Spanish racing driver .

Career

Juan Jover was one of those racing drivers who were able to qualify for a Formula 1 world championship race, but were never at the start of a Grand Prix. In 1951 he reached 18th place in training for the Spanish Grand Prix , but was unable to take part in the race after an engine failure.

Jover was already active in motorsport in the late 1940s. On a Maserati of Scuderia Milano he was the Grand Prix of Bari in 1947 and at the Albi Grand Prix in 1948 at the start (also his only Formula 1 appearance he had as a team member of the Scuderia Milano). In Bari he finished sixth and in the race in Alpi he came seventh overall.

Jover celebrated his greatest success in motorsport in 1949 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . In 1949 the endurance race on the Sarthe took place again for the first time after the war years . Jover and his partner Henri Louveau achieved second place overall and victory in the class for vehicles up to three liters on a Delage . They were only beaten by Luigi Chinetti and Peter Mitchell-Thomson, 2nd Baron Selsdon , who celebrated their first major win in motorsport for Ferrari in the Ferrari 166MM .

Jover drove car races until 1953, primarily sports car races for Scuderia Pegaso . Shortly before the 1953 Le Mans 24 Hours , he had to end his career after serious injuries sustained in a racing accident. He died in a car accident in 1960.
