Johan Franck

Johan Franck , Latinized Johan Franckenius (born January 25, 1590 in Stockholm , † October 16, 1661 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish doctor and botanist .

Live and act

Johan Franck was the son of Matthias Franck and Anna Rostorpia. After studying in Rostock , he became professor of botany and anatomy in Uppsala in 1624. He was there u. a. Teacher of Olof Rudbeck the Elder .

Franck was rector of Uppsala University three times (1630, 1636 and 1642/423) . In his works he described the medicinal effects of plants and listed their Latin and Swedish names.

Honor taxon

Carl von Linné named the genus Frankenia of the Frankeniaceae plant family in his honor .
