Juan Vicente Villacorta Díaz

Juan Vicente Villacorta Díaz (born January 22, 1764 in Zacatecoluca , †  November 1, 1828 in Guatemala ) was a member of the first three junior government of the Central American Confederation and in 1831 Supremo Director of El Salvador .

Life

Juan Vicente Villacorta Díaz Juán Villacorta was Haciendero of San Antonio , Zacatecoluca with 1,088 Manzanas = 760 hectares and the Hacienda San Lucas Usulutan with 1,896 Manzanas = 1,327 hectares.

On September 15, 1821, he was one of the signatories of the declaration of independence from Spain. In 1823 he formed a triumvirate with Pedro José Antonio Molina Mazariegos and Antonio Rivera Cabezas , called the 1st government junta of the Central American Confederation .

He was a member of the Constituent Assembly of the Central American Confederation . As an MP for San Vicente , he signed a declaration of independence for Central America from Spain, Mexico and all other states on July 1, 1823. From October 20, 1823, he sent around 500 soldiers to Nicaragua in support of Manuel José Arce y Fagoaga in order to enforce the connection to Mexico under Agustín de Itúrbide .

On December 13, 1824 Villacorta Díaz became Supremo Director of El Salvador, his deputy was Mariano Prado Baca .

On April 20, 1825 he introduced papel sellado for official documents, whereupon seal tax was collected.

In April 1825, Villacorta Díaz found that the Archbishop of Guatemala, Fray Ramón Casaus y Torres, continued to send pastoral letters , edicts and circulars to the parishes of the diocese of San Salvador from José Matías Delgado , undermining the authority of José Matías Delgado. Whereupon Manuel José Arce y Fagoaga warned Fray Ramón Casaus y Torres to update his mailing list.

In October 1926 he sent about 300 soldiers to Guatemala to support Manuel José Arce y Fagoaga against the Partido Conservador .
