Jubal ( Hebrew יוּבָל"Ram's horn", compare the horn with which the beginning of a jubilee year is opened) is mentioned in Gen 4.21  EU of the Bible as the youngest son of Lamech and his wife Ada .

Jubal had an older brother, Jabal , and a half-brother, Tubal-Cain . Like his brothers, he was a descendant of Cain .

According to the biblical story , Jubal is said to have been the forefather of all Kinnor and ʿUgav players, i.e. all musicians . While a lyre is very likely meant by Kinnor , the translation of the second name remains uncertain. The most plausible is the interpretation as a longitudinal flute, as a forerunner of the Arabic nay .
