Athletic career

In 2006, Jude Bentley won the domestic Diamond Mineral Water Race . In the same year he started at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia in road races and points on the track . He was unable to finish both competitions, but was subsequently banned from the national association for three years for indiscipline behavior during the Games. Only after paying a heavy fine did he get his license back three years later. In 2009 he won the Oil Workers Trade Union OWTU Cycling Race in Trinidad and Tobago . In 2020 Bentley, who was a sports idol in his home country, was pushed off the road by a car driving next to him on a training drive in his hometown. He fell and suffered fatal injuries. At the wheel of the car was former high-ranking soldier and prominent politician Gary Best , who is said to have been under the influence of alcohol. Best, who was running for a seat in the national parliament, was taken into custody. After he was released from custody on bail, he announced that he would not appear in public for the time being.

Bentley left behind his wife and seven children.
