Judith Joy Ross

Judith Joy Ross (* 1946 in Hazleton , USA) is an American photographer .

life and work

Judith Joy Ross studied at the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. She graduated there in 1968. She then studied with Aaron Siskind at the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, where she completed her Masters in 1970.  

Judith Joy Ross works with a large format camera, 8 × 10 inches. She makes contact sheets for the presentation .

She photographed a cross-section of the US population in the 1980s, primarily in Pennsylvania. In addition, she pursues photographic projects, such as a series about visitors to the memorial for the US soldiers who died in the Vietnam War (1983–1984 / Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC) or series of portraits of congress members and their staff (1986 -1987). On behalf of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, she photographed employees of the IT and high-tech industry in Silicon Valley in California . Judy J. Ross names August Sander and Diane Arbus as role models for her work
