Judy Shelton (* 1954 ) is an American economist .

Career

Shelton first studied at Portland State University , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education . She holds an MBA and a PhD in business administration from the University of Utah . Her first professional position was from 1985 to 1995 at the Hoover Institution , a think tank affiliated with Stanford University in California . She later served as Chair of the National Endowment for Democracy , Washington, DC and then Chairman of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London .

Shelton was involved in several presidential campaigns in the United States. Among others at that of Bob Dole , 1996 and Ben Carson , 2016. After Carson's assignment, she switched to Donald Trump's team . After his election as president, Trump appointed her as his adviser on economic policy issues. In 2019 she nominated Donald Trump as a candidate for one of the two 2019 vacant seats as governor of the Fed .

Viewpoints

Shelton repeatedly criticized the Fed's low interest rate policy during President Barack Obama's administration . Within the Atlas Network think tank , Shelton was director of the “Sound Money Project”. The Sound Money Project published articles on alternative forms of money economy , a partial or complete return to the gold standard and general reform proposals for the FED. In this context, she proposed holding a new Bretton Wood meeting at President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate .
