Havixbeck Youth Orchestra
The Havixbeck Youth Orchestra V. is a youth wind orchestra in Havixbeck in North Rhine-Westphalia . The approximately 60 members of this symphonic wind orchestra are pupils and students between the ages of 14 and 27 from the region. The orchestra has won numerous prizes in musical competitions.
history
A youth band was founded in 1973 under the direction of Günther Mertens to promote the young generation of the Havixbeck von 1878 eV wind orchestra, from which the Havixbeck Youth Orchestra - School for Wind Music Association emerged in 1975 due to great demand . The Havixbeck Music School was inaugurated on June 16, 1984. Today 850 students are taught by 49 teachers. In 1985 the Dutch composer Ted Huggens dedicated the work Interplay for Band to the Havixbeck youth orchestra. On May 21, 1991, Günther Mertens was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his outstanding commitment to musical training and youth work. Concert tours have taken the orchestra to the USA, Switzerland, Canada, Greece, the Czech Republic and, more recently, to France, Hungary, South Korea, Croatia and Singapore / Malaysia.

repertoire
The musical focus of the orchestra is on contemporary original compositions for a symphonic wind orchestra; the repertoire also includes arrangements of symphonic works and modern light music. In large symphonic ensembles, low strings (double basses, cellos), piano and harps are also regularly cast.
Participation in competitions
The orchestra was able to achieve first ranks with distinction at national and national music competitions as well as at European music festivals (Luxembourg 1990, Zurich 1992, Trier 1993, Münster 1995, Brilon 1997, Zurich 1999, Osnabrück, Olpe 2004). The youth orchestra achieved an outstanding success at the 3rd World Youth Music Festival in Zurich in July 1999, where the orchestra achieved 2nd place in the highest level. At the “International Music Festival 2003” in Décin (Czech Republic), the orchestra came out as the best youth orchestra and came in second overall. On October 3, 2003, the youth orchestra faced a professional jury (including Walter Ratzek and Maurice Hamers ) at the North Rhine-Westphalia state orchestra competition in the “Historic City Hall of Wuppertal” and achieved 1st place in the youth wind orchestra category.
At the German Orchestra Competition in May 2004, the orchestra achieved second place in the youth wind orchestra category. It received the sponsorship award from the state of Lower Saxony for the “best interpretation of a contemporary work”. At the Landesmusikfest 2004 in Olpe, the orchestra entered the top level and received 97 out of 100 points. In 2005 it reached 4th place in the category "Harmony AH Highest Class" at the 4th World Youth Music Festival in Zurich. At the Baden-Württemberg State Music Festival in 2006 in Villingen-Schwenningen, the Havixbeck youth orchestra won 2nd place in the competition for high-level orchestras. The orchestra received a first prize at the German Music Festival in 2007 in Würzburg.
In November 2007, the Havixbeck youth orchestra achieved 24.3 out of a possible 25 points at the 7th NRW State Orchestra Competition in Hamm and thus qualified again for the German Orchestra Competition from April 30 to May 4, 2008 in Wuppertal. Here it achieved 21.7 points and the rating "participated with very good success" and took second place in the category B2 youth wind orchestra.
At the 8th German Orchestra Competition from May 16 to 20, 2012 in Hildesheim, the orchestra achieved first place in the category B2 youth wind orchestra after second places in the two previous events.
At the 9th German Orchestra Competition from April 30th to May 8th, 2016 in Ulm, the orchestra was able to confirm this achievement and again took 1st place.
