Jules Verne Club

The Jules Verne Club is a German literary association founded in 2000 and based in Bremerhaven , which deals with the life and work of the French writer Jules Verne , in particular with his historical and current influence on the German-speaking area . The Jules Verne Club is the only literary association that focuses on the German-language reception of Jules Verne's works.

History and purpose

The Jules Verne Club was founded in Berlin in autumn 2000. In the early years of its existence, the club primarily served as an information forum and platform for thematic events and excursions on the subject of Jules Verne. When he moved to Bremerhaven in 2005, the focus of activities increasingly shifted to the publication of Nautilus , a specialist magazine that appears twice a year and recognized in international Verne research, as well as intensifying cooperation with foreign Jules-Verne- Companies such as the French Société Jules Verne , the North American Jules Verne Society , the Sociedad Hispánica Jules Verne and the Dutch Jules Verne Genootschap .

The Jules Verne Club includes internationally known Vernians such as Volker Dehs and Bernhard Krauth (club chairman). Wolfgang Thadewald, who died in 2014, was one of the most important German-speaking experts on Jules Verne's works. In addition to Nautilus , special editions appear at irregular intervals, such as the first bibliophile German translations of Der Weg nach Frankreich and Der Foundling by Cynthia , as well as Thadewald's Walks through the Vernistik series , which was interrupted by the death of her spiritus rector .
