Volker Dehs (born February 4, 1964 in Bremen ) is a German literary scholar , translator and publicist . He is considered a Jules Verne specialist or Vernien in German-speaking countries.

Live and act

From 1983 Volker Dehs studied Romance languages , German , art history and philosophy at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1984 he received a scholarship from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation , and in 1985/86 the German Academic Exchange Service made it possible for him to study at the University of Nantes . In 1992 he received the University of Göttingen Prize for special academic achievements and the Göttingen District Culture Prize .

During his student years, Dehs published various articles about Jules Verne and ETA Hoffmann in German and French literary magazines, such as the Jules Verne revue . In 1986 his first Verne biography appeared in the renowned series " Rowohlt's Monographs ". This standard work and other research publications - including the bilingual compilation of bibliographical guides through Jules Verne research. 1872 - 2001 (2002) - cemented Deh's reputation as a leading German Verne researcher. The work, illustrated by Dehs himself, quickly developed into a cult book for the region and was revised and expanded in 2003.

Dehs has been a member of the Association of German Writers (VS) since 1988 . On April 10, 2001 he joined the Jules Verne Club , in whose magazine Nautilus he regularly publishes articles and translations.

Volker Dehs, who also worked as a theater critic, lives as a literary scholar and freelance journalist in Göttingen .
