Jules Jacob (singer)

Jules Jacob (born 1906 in Saint-Prosper-de-Champlain , † January 16, 1969 in Montreal ) was a Canadian singer (tenor).

Jacob studied singing with Salvator Issaurel and Alice Raymond and became a member of the Alouette Vocal Quartet in 1930 , of which he was a member until 1956. He was also a member of the Trio lyrique since the late 1930s, succeeding tenor Ludovic Huot . He made recordings with both ensembles. He made his stage debut in 1938 in a concert performance of the opera Évangéline by Xavier Leroux . In 1941, 1944 and 1947 he sang the tenor solo part in performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony . At the Montreal Festivals in 1943 and 1944 he was a soloist in the performance of the St. Matthew Passion . In 1944 he sang the helmsman in Tristan und Isolde . He also appeared in various supporting roles in performances by the Opera Guild .

On the radio Jacob appeared regularly in the series Le réveil rural (1937-1967) and Le quart d'heure de la Bonne Chanson (1939-1952). With Albert Viau he recorded two tracks for the La Bonne Chanson series from Bluebird Records . From the mid-1950s he ran a record store.
