Jules de Joly

Jules de Joly (born November 24, 1788 in Montpellier ; † February 8, 1865 there ) is a French architect who carried out the major renovations of the Palais Bourbon , which have been preserved to this day.

Life

Jules de Joly attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1808 and became a student of Delespine. In 1815 he received the Prix ​​départemental for his designs. In the same year he became the architect of the French National Assembly . From 1828 he rebuilt the plenary hall and the residential wing of the president, as they have been preserved to this day. In 1860, under the Duc de Morny (Président du Corps Législatif), he built the Galerie des Tapisseries in the Palais Bourbon .

In addition to his official role as architect of the French National Assembly, he built the Hôtel Bony (32, rue de Trévise in the 9th arrondissement of Paris) for the speculator René Bony in 1826 . He also built the house at 4, rue d'Aboukir in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris.

The building, constructed in the style of an Italian palace, was completed in the 1820s. The ground floor has large arched windows that enclose the mezzanine floor above. The first floor has three-part windows, with the middle part ending with a round arch that rests on two columns. Arched windows follow on the second floor and rectangular windows on the third floor. On the top floor there are antique busts standing on consoles . The roof is emphasized by windows with triangular gables as decoration.

The facade of the house was registered as a monument historique on April 13, 1928 and renovated in 2008.
