Julia Bacha (* 1980 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian documentary filmmaker , best known for her work on the documentaries Encounter Point , Control Room and Budrus .

Bacha grew up in Brazil and moved to New York in 1998 to study Middle Eastern politics and history at Columbia University . At the end of her studies in 2003 she was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Prize.

Bacha works for Just Vision , an organization that works for a non-violent solution to the Palestine conflict . Bacha played a leading role in several documentaries on topics from the Middle East. Here at she often worked with Ronit Avni .

Control Room is a documentary about Al Jazeera television and its relationship with the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) during the Iraq invasion. The documentary was directed by the Egyptian Jehane Noujaim and Bacha worked on the script and editing .

In Encounter Point then also led to direct myself with Ronit Avni. This documentary describes the impact of the Middle East conflict on the lives of 16 Israeli and Palestinian families.

At Budrus she directed again. This film describes the non-violent resistance of the Palestinian village Budrus against the construction of the Israeli border wall , which threatened to cut off the village from its fields.

Bacha is married with a daughter and a son and lives with her family in New York.
