Julia Dolly Joiner

Julia Dolly Joiner (born November 11, 1956 in Bathurst ) is a Gambian politician.

Life

Joiner attended St. Joseph's High School from 1967 to 1973 and then the Gambia High School , which she graduated in 1975.

She studied French language and culture (Cours de Langue et de Civilization Francaise) at the University of Dakar in 1975/1976 and in 1980 obtained a master's degree in linguistics and a bachelor's degree in French from the University of Grenoble .

From 1981 Joiner worked in various ministries, especially in the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Affairs. From September 1994 to June 1995 she was Deputy State Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture , then State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry (until November 1996) and in the Presidential Office (until December 1998). In 1999 she was Secretary to Cabinet . Between January 2000 and November 2002 she was the first woman Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service . In January 2003 she is said to have submitted her retirement from the civil service, as she was sent to the civil war country of Sierra Leone as High Commissioner after her dismissal as General Secretary .

In September 2003, it became the Commissioner for Political Affairs (Commissioner for Political Affairs) of the African Union elected and held this position for two terms long pause. In July 2012, she was succeeded by the Nigerian Aisha Abdullahi .

In 2015 she was an election observer for the African Union in the Seychelles presidential election.

Joiner has held the Order of the Republic of The Gambia in the Commander level since 2001 . She is married and has two kids.
