Julia Kowalczyk

Julia Kowalczyk (born September 30, 1997 in Rybnik ) is a Polish judoka . She was third at the World Championships in 2019.

Athletic career

Julia Kowalczyk has been fighting in the lightweight, the weight class up to 57 kilograms , since 2013 . In 2014 she was third in the U18 European Championships. In 2015 she won bronze at the U21 European Championships and finished seventh at the U21 World Championships. In 2016 she won the U21 European Championships and in the same year she won the Polish championship title in the adult class. In 2017 she was third again in the U21 European Championships. The title at the U23 European Championships followed in 2018.

At the 2019 European Championships held in Minsk as part of the 2019 European Games, Kowalczyk lost in her first fight to the Russian Darja Meschezkaja . Two months later she was defeated by the Japanese Tsukasa Yoshida in the quarterfinals of the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo . In the hope round she defeated Darja Meschezkaja and in the battle for bronze she defeated the Bulgarian Iwelina Iliewa .
