Julia Phillips
Julia Phillips (* 7. April 1944 in New York City as Julia Miller ; † 1. January 2002 in West Hollywood , California ) was an American film producer . She was the first woman to win an Oscar as a producer for best picture.
Life
Phillips worked as a producer from 1972. Up to and including 1991 eight films were made with her participation.
In 1974 she was awarded an Oscar in the category of best film for The Clou, together with Tony Bill and her then husband Michael Phillips . This made her the first woman to be awarded an Oscar in this category. Three years later she was nominated again for an Oscar for Taxi Driver .
Her marriage to Michael Phillips lasted from 1966 to 1974. They had one child together.
In 1991 she published You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again, an autobiographical work about Hollywood. In this book she also addressed her own drug use. In 1995 a second book followed with Driving Under Affluence .
She died of complications from cancer.
