Julia Soubbotina

Julia Soubbotina (* 1968 in Moscow ) is a Russian designer , costume and stage designer and painter .

Life

Julia Soubbotina grew up in Moscow, where she attended the sculpture class of the Krasnopresnenskaya Art School from 1981. In 1984 she made the acquaintance of Vitalij Dmitrovic Linizki, an artist from group 20 from the alternative scene on “Malaya Gruzinskaya” in Moscow. She took lessons in painting , drawing and composition from him . Until 1992 she studied textile design at the Stroganoff Institute in Moscow. This was followed by participation in all-Russian design competitions in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

In 1993 Soubbotina came to Berlin , where she completed a postgraduate course in textile design with Barbara Erdmann at the Fine Art Faculty of the HdK . After completing her studies, Soubbotina realized several projects, including a. with the artist Javier Salguiero for the Werkstatt der Kulturen , the actionsgalerie Berlin and the VHS Steglitz Berlin.

Since 2002 she has been working with the theater director Nikša Eterović , with whom she first carried out the project “Don Quixote - Last Journey” in the Gasometer Schöneberg . Further collaborations followed, including a. she worked on his team that realized the five-part James Joyce cycle. The second and fourth parts of this cycle were shown in February 2013 at the Samuel Beckett Theater in Dublin .

From 2003 to 2011 Soubbotina taught the subjects of art and playroom (stage and costume) at the international training institute theakademie in Berlin.
