Julian Grenfell, 3rd Baron Grenfell

Julian Pascoe Francis St Leger Grenfell, 3rd Baron Grenfell (born May 23, 1935 in London ) is a peer of the Labor Party in the House of Lords . He is known for his pro-European views.

Life

Julian Grenfell attended Eton College and studied at King's College (Cambridge) , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts . He is President of the Cambridge Union. He completed his military service in 1954 with the King's Royal Rifle Corps (60th Rifles) . In 1962 he became captain of the Queen's Royal Rifles .

From 1960 to 1963 he was a presenter at ATV (London), from 1963 to 1964 he was a freelance journalist. From 1965 to 1995 he worked at the World Bank in New York and Paris .

At the death of his father Pascoe Grenfell, 2nd Baron Grenfell , he inherited his title in 1976, including the associated seat in the House of Lords. His first speech in Parliament was recorded on March 27, 1985. He lost his hereditary seat in Parliament through the enactment of the House of Lords Act 1999 on November 11, 1999. On April 17, 2000, he was named Life Peer with the title Baron Grenfell of Kilvey in the County of Swansea , thereby regaining a seat in the House of Lords. On March 31, 2014, he left the House of Lords at his own request.

From 2002 to 2008 he was Principal Deputy Chairman of Committees and Deputy Speaker, Chairman of the Select Committee on the European Union and from 2003 to 2007 a member of the Procedure Committee .

Baron Grenfell was a member of the following bipartisan working groups: from 2002 Secretary of the Croatian Group, 2005-07 Deputy Chairman of the France Group and from 2006 Secretary of the Belgium Group.

From 1997 to 99 he was a member of the British delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of the European Union and President of the Anglo-Belgian Society.
