Julie Garwood (born 1946 in Kansas City , Missouri ) is an American romance novelist. With a total circulation of over 30 million copies and at least 15 New York Times bestsellers, she is one of the successful representatives of her genre. She recently started writing under the pseudonym Emily Chase . Her book For the Roses was filmed for television.

Life

Julie Garwood grew up in Kansas, the sixth of seven children in a large Irish family. After a tonsil operation at the age of six, she was very sickly and missed a lot in school. It wasn't until she was eleven that her mother realized that she could barely read. To catch up on the material, she spent a whole summer studying with the math teacher Sister Elizabeth, who taught her the love of reading. Sister Elizabeth made a big impression on Julie, naming her daughter after the teacher.

During her training as a registered nurse, she also attended a course on Russian history. This prompted her to take a second degree: in history. One of her professors, impressed with the quality of her stories, convinced her to take a year off to write. The result was two books: 'A Girl Called Summer' a children's book and her first historical story 'Gentle Warrior'.

Although Julie enjoyed writing, she didn't want to pursue a career as a writer. As a young wife and mother, she took on many freelance writing jobs and wrote longer stories for entertainment. After her youngest child started school, she began attending writers' conferences. Here she met an agent who published three of her books and asked for more.

She currently lives in Leawood , Kansas and has three children.
