Julien Rappeneau is a French screenwriter and film director .

Life

Rappeneau grew up in an artist household: he is the son of the film director Jean-Paul Rappeneau . His aunt is director Élisabeth Rappeneau , his brother Martin Rappeneau works as a film composer. Rappeneau went to the cinema regularly as a child. Since his father was against his starting a career in film, Rappeneau first became a journalist and wrote for magazines such as Écran total and Télérama . Rappeneau came to film rather by chance, as his father involved him in the preparation of the film Bon voyage . Rappeneau eventually co-wrote the script. Several film scenarios followed, including the screenplay for 36 - Deadly Rivals (2004) with Olivier Marchal and Franck Mancuso , for which he received a César nomination in the category Best Screenplay , Dialogues for Paris, Paris - Monsieur Pigoil on the way to Glück (2008) as well as the adaptation and the script for My Way - A Life for the Chanson (2012).

In 2015 Rappeneau directed and released his directorial debut with Rosalie Blum . The film, based on a graphic novel by Camille Jourdy , won the audience award at the Gijón International Film Festival and was nominated for a César in the category Best First Work in 2017 .
