Julieta Campos

Julieta Campos (born May 8, 1932 in Havana , † September 5, 2007 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican writer and translator of Cuban origin.

Campus met the Mexican politician and writer Enrique González Pedrero while studying at the University of Havana and married him shortly afterwards. When her husband went back to his homeland, she went with him.

Between 1978 and 1982 Campos headed the Mexican writers' association PEN

In 1983 her husband won the gubernatorial elections in Tabasco and they lived in the capital, Villahermosa , until 1987 . During this time Campos worked as a translator for the Mexican publisher Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE).

The politician Andrés Manuel López Obrador appointed her in 2000 as head of the tourism authority in his cabinet.

At the age of 75, Julieta Campos died of cancer on September 5 in Mexico City, where she also found her final resting place.
