Julio Acuña , full name Julio Heber Acuña Alegre , (born December 11, 1954 in Lascano ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach.

Player career

Acting on the goalkeeping position, Acuña played from 1970 to 1975 for the Racing Club de Montevideo . There he made his debut in the first team in 1972. Until 1981 he was then active with the Montevideo Wanderers . In 1982 he was under contract with Centro Atlético Fénix . Defensor Sporting was his employer from 1982 to 1984 . This was followed by a career stint in Chile at CD Cobresal from mid-1984 to 1991. In 1992 he returned to Racing. The following year he stopped playing football and began training as a coach. As the last club in professional football, the Racing Club is again run for him in 1994. In the same year he ended his active career with the amateur club Palermo FC in the Liguilla des Departamento Rocha .

National team

Acuña was a member of the Uruguayan senior team and took part with this as a substitute goalkeeper at the Copa America 1983 . The Uruguayans decided the continental tournament in their favor.

Coaching career

Acuña took up a career as a coach after his active career. First he was assistant coach at Salus Football Club in 1995 . The following year he was responsible for goalkeeper training at Club Atlético Peñarol . In 1997 the “Aurinegros” gave him a job as a youth coach. From 1998 Acuña took a first engagement as head coach in the professional area at Juventud , which lasted until mid-February 2001. He won the second division championship with the team in 1999 and rose to the Primera División . From May 2001 to April 2002 he was in charge of the El Tanque Sisley team . From there he moved to his club from active times, the Racing Club, where he was responsible until the end of the year. In the first half of 2003 he was a coach at Sud América . In the first five months of 2004, Acuña took on the role of head coach at CD Cobresal . In July 2004 he was hired by the first division club Rocha FC . He was released there in mid-November of that year. It was not until the beginning of October 2005 that he found a new job as a coach at Club Sportivo Cerrito , which was not continued beyond the end of the year. From March 2006 to the end of December 2006 he was in charge of training at Club Atlético Cerro . In the Clausura 2007 he held the position of coach at the Racing Club for the second time. In the Apertura 2008 Acuña looked after the team of the second division club Atlético Atenas . From October 2010 to mid-January 2011, Club Atlético Platense was his employer. Immediately afterwards, Acuña was the head coach of Tacuarembó FC from January 2011 to October 2011 . From February 2013 to April 2013 he worked in this role at Central Español . From September 2015 he coached the team of Club Atlético Platense again. In the second half of February 2017, he moved to the Colón Fútbol Club as a coach .
