Julio César Castro , known under the pseudonym Juceca , (born May 6, 1928 in Montevideo , Uruguay , † September 11, 2003 ibid) was a Uruguayan comedian and narrator.

Life

Juceca began his career in 1959 at the radio station CX 14 El Espectador , where he was employed for eight years. From this point on, he worked alternately in Montevideo and Buenos Aires, in a broad field of activity that extended from television and cinema to radio and numerous print media. In relation to the latter, he wrote from 1970 to 1974 for both the Marcha and the Montevidean newspaper Guambia . In addition, from 1972 to 1974 he worked for the Buenos Aires-based newspaper Crisis .

At the age of 43, Juceca created the character Don Verídico , who would become an icon of Uruguayan storytelling . In retrospect, he was unable to determine whether this figure began in 1961 or 1962, but the origin was in his Sunday program Tranquera Oriental on Radio El Espectador. In 1974 this figure was used alongside Luis Landriscina on the CX 30 de Montevideo station . From 1975 to 1984 he was daily in the Argentine capital transmitter Radio Rivadavia on the side of Héctor Larrea's the Don verídico . He also appeared on television in the Montevidean Canal 4 and in Buenos Aires together with Luis Landriscina in Canal 7 , Canal 9 , Canal 11 and Canal 13 . In 1984 Juceca received the Premio Argentores for Don Verídico on Radio El Mundo with Juan Manuel Tenuta . He was awarded for the best radio comedy program in the Republic of Argentina.

Juceca has published numerous books and was the author of the play La última velada , which premiered in 1987 at the Teatro Circular by Nidia Telles . He also wrote the scripts for the films El muerto , Millonarios a la fuerza and El viaje hacia el mar . In the latter Uruguayan flick he was also one of the main characters. He also appeared as a Murga writer. In this context, Las ranas in 1974 and Los Menecuchos in 1989 were among his works.

In January 2003 he was invited as the only representative of Uruguay to the Festival de Escritores y Narradores in the Canary Islands. At that time he was preparing to publish a book to be called Nadie entiende nada (y menos el autor) . He died of lung disease that same year at the age of 68.
