life and work

Sin título (Untitled) , in Cerro Nutibara , Colombia .

Julio Le Parc attended the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Buenos Aires (National College of Fine Arts) and there met Francisco Sobrino and Horacio Garcia Rossi. In 1958 he went to Paris. He worked there in Victor Vasarely's studio . As a light and object artist, he began to work with like-minded people in the Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel .

He mainly created light kinetic objects and mobiles with light reflectors. His aim was to make visual phenomena clear through experiments. New technologies should be used to represent the relationship between light and movement in an innovative way. His work aims to change body awareness and balance by distorting visual information. He uses light, reflective surfaces, lenses, patterned glass and distorting mirrors. He creates dynamic effects with the reflections of the shiny surfaces. The viewer should be encouraged to actively participate by elements that can be manipulated in his objects and moved at will.

Exhibitions

Julio Le Parc took part in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world as part of the Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel and later as a solo artist. This included, among other things, taking part in documenta III in Kassel in 1964 in the famous Light and Movement department and, as an individual artist, taking part in the 4th documenta in 1968.

In 2004 he and Yvonne Argenterio produced a series of sculptures (Torsions) at the Italian company Elettrofiamma, which were shown at the Verso la Luce event in Boldeniga Castle (province of Brescia, Italy). The monumental sculpture Verso la Luce can still be seen there in the palace garden .
