Horacio Garcia Rossi
Horacio Garcia Rossi (* 1929 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ; lived and worked in Paris ; † September 5, 2012 in Paris) was an Argentine painter and kinetic artist . Along with Julio Le Parc , François Morellet , Francisco Sobrino , Joël Stein and Yvaral, he was one of the co-founders of the group of artists Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel (GRAV) in 1960 .
life and work
Horacio Garcia Rossi studied from 1950 to 1957 at the National College of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. During his studies there he met Julio Le Park and Francisco Sobrino. From 1959 Garcia Rossi lives and works in Paris. As a light and object artist, he began to work with like-minded people in the Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel .
Out of interest in the study of visual phenomena, Garcia-Rossi researched the actual movement of light from 1962. He got his first experience with geometric shapes on screens. He also develops objects that are supposed to encourage the viewer to cooperate (e.g. cylinders in rotation) and begins a continuous exploration of the problem of the instability of light and movement. He begins to manipulate cans with light and unstable colors and motifs, and uses light and structures in changing colors.
From 1966 he gained his first experience with the visual identification of writing (in motion). From 1972 to 1974 he returned to the questions of two-dimensionality and the search for simple structures through analytical means through artistic examination of colors and their possibilities. From 1974 to 1978 he investigated the problem of the artistic inclusion of linguistic means and since 1978 he has been doing research on the problem of color and light.
