Julio Samsó

Julio Samsó Moya (born May 17, 1942 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish historian of science and Arabist.

Julio Samsó studied at the University of Barcelona , where he was a student of Juan Vernet . In 1964 he received his licentiate and in 1967 he received his doctorate. This was followed by study trips to Rabat and Alexandria. From 1974 to 1976 he was professor of Arabic literature and language at the University of La Laguna and then at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (from 1982 as a professor, also at the University of Barcelona).

He is particularly concerned with the history of astronomy in the Middle Ages of Spain and the Magreb states.

He was Vice President of the Académie internationale d'histoire des sciences and a member from 1988. In 1995 he received the Koyré Medal . In 1981 he became a member of the Real Academia de Buenas Letras de Barcelona. In 1986 he became a corresponding member of the Real Academia de la Historia.
