Juliomys is a genus of rodents from the group of New World mice . The genus was only established in 2000 and includes four species that live in southeastern South America .
features
They are relatively small representatives of the New World mice, their fur is reddish in color on the upper side, the underside is lighter. They are predominantly tree-dwelling, otherwise little is known about their way of life.
Systematics
There are four types:
- Juliomys ossitenius was first described in 2007. The species is distributed from Espírito Santo to São Paulo.
 - Juliomys pictipes is common in south-east Brazil ( São Paulo and Santa Catarina ) and north-east Argentina ( Misiones ). The species was previously classified in the genus Wilfredomys .
 - Juliomys rimofrons was first described in 2002 andis only known from the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais .
 - Juliomys ximenezi was first described in 2016 from southern Brazil.
 
The generic epithet was awarded in honor of the Argentine biologist Julio Rafael Contreras (1933-2017).
Status and protection
Little is known about the endangerment level of the species. The IUCN only cites J. pictipes and lists the species as not endangered.
