Julius Anthoni

Julius Anthoni (later Julius Anthoni Friese ; † 1584 or 1585 in Danzig ) was a German organ builder who worked in Danzig.

life and work

Julius Anthoni probably came from Friesland , as he was later called Julius Anthoni Friese . He worked in Hamburg in 1575 and in Lübeck in 1579 before coming to Danzig in 1582. The city immediately granted him citizenship and free accommodation there, as he was supposed to carry out various repairs on organs. The city of Königsberg (Kneiphof) also applied for him to build a new organ for the cathedral . An unsuccessful petition is known.

In 1582, Anthoni repaired the organ on the St. Marien's loft and expanded the organ above the entrance to the Reinhold Chapel. He obviously used parts of the main organ. From 1583 he built a new main organ for the church. 53 registers were provided for in the contract. The pipes were probably made of metal, as wooden pipes were not yet common at that time. In 1584 or 1585 Anthoni had an accident while installing the pipes; the construction of the organ was completed by his assistant.
