Julius Giesecke (born June 7, 1833 in Salbke ; † February 10, 1881 in Klein Wanzleben ; full name: Adolf Julius Otto Giesecke ) was a German farmer and entrepreneur .

Life

Giesecke came from a long-established Salbker farming family. In 1856 he moved to Klein Wanzleben and married Marie Elisabet b. Rabbethge , a daughter of Matthias Christian Rabbethge . Giesecke's father Johann Adolf Giesecke also took over shares in the company Rabbethge & Giesecke , which was in the process of being founded , and which was engaged in the cultivation of sugar beet and the extraction of beet sugar . Together with his father-in-law, Julius Giesecke ran the company, with Giesecke concentrating on the agricultural part. The company's arable land increased from 200 acres to 17,000 acres under his leadership .

The company became particularly important because Rabbethge and Giesecke were particularly committed to improving the quality of sugar beets and achieved great breeding successes. They thus laid the foundation for the well-known Klein Wanzleber seed cultivation . The original sugar beet they bred became one of the most important cultivars.
