National River
National River (German: National Fluss or Nationaler Flusspark ) is in the United States of America a category name in the National Park System for some larger flowing waters, which for various reasons are given national importance and which are therefore particularly protected, including certain areas in the area. The administration of the designated river parks can either be carried out by federal authorities, such as the National Park Service , the Bureau of Land Management , the US Forest Service , the US Fish and Wildlife Service , but can also be carried out by federal, possibly also local, institutions.
In addition, there is the designation National Wild and Scenic River for near-natural and particularly scenic, picturesque rivers . Related terms such as Scenic and Recreational River (for example: scenic and recreational river) or Scenic Riverways (scenic river courses) can also be found.
In addition to the nationally significant rivers, some states have designated river areas and waterways of regional importance as official state rivers under the designation State River or State Riverway (for example Indiana the Wabash River ).
