Julius Kaltenbach (* 1858 in Niederweiler ; † 1931 in Haagen im Wiesental ) was a German mechanical engineering company and the founder of the Kaltenbach Group , which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2012.

Live and act

Julius Kaltenbach was born in 1858 as the third child of the married couple Jakob and Anna Kaltenbach. His parents' house in Niederweiler near Müllheim offered space for a large family; at the birth of the thirteenth child, the mother Anna Maria died. His father Jakob Friedrich Kaltenbach brewed beer and tapped it in his "Gasthaus zur Alten Brauerei"; he also worked as a farmer. The father found an apprenticeship as a mechanic for Julius in Basel and followed the journeyman's years of travel from Niederweiler.

After three years of working as a master at the machine tool manufacturer G. Kärger in Berlin , Julius Kaltenbach returned to Markgräflerland and started his own business. In Haagen im Wiesental (today Lörrach-Haagen ) he bought a locksmith 's shop on the canal in 1887 and traded as "Julius Kaltenbach, Haagen (Baden) - specialty machine tools". He found his wife Bertha Reinert in the landlord's daughter in the nearby "Gasthaus zur Linde". After the wedding in 1892, the company moved to the new company building at Güterstrasse 45 in Lörrach. Their children, Julius the Elder, grew up here. Younger and Hans up. The resourceful company founder Julius Kaltenbach led his company for almost four decades until he handed over the machine tool division to his son Hans in 1926 and the agricultural machinery division to his son Julius Kaltenbach.
