Haagen ( Alemannic : Haage ) is a northern part of the district town of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg . Haagen lies to the right of the Wiese River in a valley niche. geography

The place stretches from the banks of the meadow at 310 meters up to 570 meters at the top of the Röttler forest . Hague's highest point is also the highest point in the city of Lörrach. The village is predominantly settled in the valley floor of the Wiesental . The hamlet of Röttelnweiler to the south-west and the hamlet of Hasenloch, which has since opened up in the core town, belong to Haagen . The A 98 runs between the core town and Röttelnweiler - in Haagen there is the western viaduct entrance of the Wiesentalbrücke , which leads the motorway over the valley.

Haagen borders the Lörrach district of Tumringen in the south-west, the core town of Lörrach in the south, the Lörrach district of Brombach in the south-east, the Lörrach district of Hauingen in the east and the municipalities of Rümmingen and Wittlingen, which are part of the Vorderes Kandertal municipal administration association, in the north-west . A few hectares of forest east of the Heilisau stream, which is an exclave east of Hauingen im Stockert, is part of the Haagens district area.

history

The name Haagen is mentioned in a document from 1365 and is derived from the Old High German term hagan (Dornbusch, Verhau) and describes a fenced area. A steep plate grave from the 7th century shows that the place is even much older. Until 1788 the place belonged together with Tumringen , Röttelnweiler and Hauingen to the Bailiwick of Rötteln. Industrialization began at the beginning of the 18th century, and the first major operation was a cotton mill, which in the year it was built already employed over 200 workers. In 1853 the factory was expanded to include the Rötteln plant and more residents moved to Haagen. The population therefore tripled between 1813 and 1853. In 1895 the place had 1,100 inhabitants, of which only about 70 were citizens.

In 1974 Haagen was incorporated into Lörrach and has since had its own local administration with a local council . The population of the district is just under 3,500.

From the 19th century, Haagen was strongly influenced by the arrival of the textile industry . In the 20th century, the mail order company Schöpflin , founded in 1930, made the district known throughout Germany with the advertising slogan "Schöpflin Haagen - weiterersagen". The mail order company was taken over by Quelle (now part of Arcandor ) in 1964 . The Lörrach-Haagen location was given up in 1999, the Schöpflin brand and the catalog were wound up a few years later.

coat of arms

Description : Half divided and split; in front: in gold (yellow) a growing red lion above the clouds ; behind: an upright red fish in gold. The coat of arms of Haagen is divided into two parts. The coat of arms of the noble von Rötteln can be seen in the front or heraldic right ; in the upper part a half red lion on a golden background and in the lower part blue-white wave rows. On the left is a jumping golden fish on a red background. This should remind of the lordly privilege of the Hoffischer in Haagen. The coat of arms has existed since 1964.

Twin town

Since 1988 there has been a partnership with the border community Village-Neuf in France , which is maintained through mutual and club activities. Remembrance days such as the day of national mourning are also celebrated together.

Inside the new chapel, the hanging cross, the ambo , the candle holder and the door handles on the portals are made by the artist Rudolf Scheurer from Lörrach .
