Rudolf Scheurer

Rudolf Scheurer (born July 18, 1931 in Hauingen ; † June 4, 2020 ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Scheurer trained as a stone sculptor in Freiburg im Breisgau . He studied art in Basel and Linz . Further study visits took him to London and Paris . Rudolf Scheurer traveled to many countries overseas. From 1960 he lived and worked in Brombach . Scheurer's sculptures, which are inspired by his many trips abroad, are described as emblematic, organically curved with vegetative forms. Scheurer exhibited his works in various galleries and museums around the world, including in 1972 in the museum in Toulon , several times at the Art Basel art fair and at art fairs in Paris, London, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Brussels. In total, Rudolf Scheurer had over 300 exhibitions from 1960 to 2012.

In 1998 the artist and his wife founded the sculptor Rudolf Scheurer Foundation , which exhibits 90 works of art from 1958 to 2013. The large sculptures are exhibited in the open air along a sculpture path and in the garden “On top of the mountain”, while smaller works can be found in the twelve-meter-high sculpture tower with three exhibition rooms specially built by the foundation.

There are numerous sculptures by the artist in churches and in public spaces in Lörrach and the surrounding area. Part of his estate is cared for in the Dreiländermuseum in Lörrach.
