Tumringen district

Tumringen ( Alemannic : Dumringe ) has been a district of Lörrach since 1935 , which is located west of the Wiese River. The historic hamlet of Rötteln is located in the northeast of the Tumringen district . To the south-west of Tumringen lies the Tüllinger Berg , a vantage point and local recreation area in the region.

history

Tumringen 1906

In 767 Tumringen was first mentioned as Tohtarinchova , but the district had probably been inhabited for a long time. Another mention is made in 890 in a document from Emperor Arnulf, in which Tumringen is described as the property of the St. Gallen monastery . Tumringen was later part of the Rötteln rule . Lutheran sermons have been used in Tumring Church since the 16th century.

In 1591 a bridge was built over the river Wiese . In the Thirty Years' War and in the wars of Louis XIV , the site, which was located near the strategically important Rhine crossing in Basel , was largely destroyed. The inhabitants of Tumringen were evidently traditionally particularly well- defended , as their current nickname Güggel indicates. In 1731 the borders with the neighboring communities were established. In 1742 a stone bridge was built across the meadow.

In the 19th century the industrialization of the Wiesental took place, where mainly textile companies settled. In the years 1920/21 the Lörrach airfield was in operation on Tumringer district . After the First World War, Tumringen suffered from an economic crisis, which is why u. a. also the plan to build a war memorial had to be abandoned. In 1925 Tumringen had 1,196 inhabitants. The possibility of incorporation into Loerrach began to be discussed, which was carried out with a ceremony on October 1, 1935.

Tumringen suffered from heavy traffic for a long time, with the construction of the A 98 motorway initially relieving the congestion and since 1988, above all, has led national traffic past Tumringen and Lörrach. Today the development of Lörrach and Tumringen is only separated by the meadow. With the new development of the area in the area where Mühlestrasse joins Freiburger Strasse, Tumringen is experiencing for the first time a visible urbanization with additional shopping opportunities and a modern multi-purpose hall located behind the primary school.

coat of arms

The two-part coat of arms of Tumringen shows the colors of Baden on the left, a red sloping bar on a gold background. On the right is a standing, black bear on a gold background. The coat of arms indicates that it belongs to the margraviate and later to the Grand Duchy of Baden (left), owned by the St. Gallen monastery (right). The coat of arms was introduced in 1905.

Educational institutions

Today's primary school in Tumringen is located in a building from 1909. Before that, the school was housed in what would later become the town hall, which now houses a bank. The listed building was moved a few meters in the 2010s in order to facilitate the development of the Tumringen-Süd building area. From 2014 to 2016 a sports hall with a cafeteria and extension rooms was added. The primary school is now two-class with around 130 students and ten teachers.
