Bannwald Röttler forest

The included FFH protected forest Röttler Forest (alternatively Röttlerwald ) was designated in 2001 and covers an area of 166 hectares, 17 hectares of Lörrach and 149 hectares of which the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg belong. The submontane altitude level has an altitude of 410 to 570 meters. Geologically, the Bannwald consists mainly of Upper Buntsandstein with different layers of loess and parabrown soils with transitions to brown soils . In terms of climate, the forest has an annual average temperature of around 10 degrees Celsius and an annual average rainfall of 900 to 1080 millimeters. The Röttler Forest was established as a natural hardwood reserve after hurricane Lothar in 1999, which uprooted or damaged 30,000 cubic meters of wood in the Röttler Forest alone. The natural vegetation includes beech and sessile oaks with individual firs .

The Röttler Forest can be reached via hiking trails from the three forest car parks “ Rechberg ” above Hauingen , “Kleeplatz” on the Wittlinger Höhe and the forest car park at the Scheideckpass . In addition to a 3.6 kilometer long circular path, there is a 2.1 kilometer long forest path.
