Julius Kunert

Julius Kunert , also Julius Kunert jun. (* June 4, 1900 in Warnsdorf , Bohemia; † February 7, 1993 in Immenstadt im Allgäu ), was an entrepreneur in the textile industry.

Life

Kunert was born as the son of the textile industrialist Julius Kunert sen. (1871–1950) and his wife Maria. Working in his parents' business, which started in 1924 with the establishment of the knitwear factory J. Kunert und Söhne OHG in Warnsdorf with the production of inexpensive rayon stockings on cotton machines, in 1928 with the construction of new factories and branches etc. a. in Krásná Lípa and Wolfberg became the largest stocking manufacturer in Europe with around 5,000 employees in 1938, Julius Kunert was its commercial director. The technical management was with his brother Heinrich Kunert (* 1899); since 1978 they had also been majority shareholders in the Hudson and Arwa group of companies.

After the nationalization of the Kunert factory after the end of the Second World War in 1945 by Czechoslovakia and the expulsion of the family to Bavaria , Julius Kunert and his son began again with the production of textile goods in 1946 in the Allgäu . In 1973, Julius Kunert junior handed over the management of the company to his nephew Rainer Michel, who developed the Kunert company into a leading specialist textile retailer in Europe. In 1993 Kunert died in Immenstadt in the Allgäu.

Due to the importance of Kunert for Immenstadt as an entrepreneur and as the founder of the Julius and Gertraud Kunert Foundation (1976), he has been honored several times:

  • Golden Citizen Medal of the City of Immenstadt (1975)
  • Renaming of a section of Lindauer Strasse to Julius-Kunert-Strasse
  • Honorary citizenship of the city of Immenstadt (1975)
  • Designation of a sports hall in the school and sports center ( Julius-Kunert-Halle )
