Julius Rose

Karl Julius Rose (born October 24, 1828 in Königsbrück near Dresden , † October 23, 1911 in Munich ) was a German landscape painter.

Rose came to Munich with his family in 1836. He began an apprenticeship as a sculptor, but soon broke it off and began an apprenticeship as a gardener. Julius worked together with his father in Count Hohenthal's palace gardens .

The countess recognized his talent and had him copy the pictures from the castle's picture gallery. Rose studied painting at the Dresden Art Academy under Christian Gottlob Hammer . He then went on study trips to Switzerland and Italy .

Rose mainly painted high mountain landscapes and Scandinavian fjords.

Rose often signed his works with his pseudonyms "Antonio Rose" or "Georg Carré" in different variations (Caré, Carée, Carré),
