Julius Seifert

Heinrich Julius Seifert (born January 12, 1848 in Zwickau ; † March 31, 1909 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Live and act

The son of a factory worker attended elementary school in Zwickau . He then completed an apprenticeship as a shoemaker in his hometown from 1862 to 1866. He then did his military service in the 1st Company of the 105th Regiment and was a participant in the Franco-German War of 1870/71 . After he was discharged from the military after the war, he continued his trade as a shoemaker in Zwickau until 1888.

Seifert was one of the leading social democratic local officials in Zwickau. From 1888 to 1902 he was employed managing director of the Schedewitzer Konsumverein and cashier of several auxiliary funds in Zwickau. From 1902 until his death he was employed by the local health insurance fund in Zwickau. 1892 founder and since 1902 company sponsor of the Saxon Volksblatt Zwickau under Seifert & Co.

From February 1890 to June 1903 Seifert represented the 19th Saxon constituency ( Stollberg - Schneeberg ) in the Reichstag in Berlin for three electoral terms . After Wilhelm Liebknecht resigned his state parliament mandate in 1892, Seifert was also elected to the second chamber of the Saxon state parliament in the Chemnitz 2 constituency. He was a member of this until 1901.

Honors

In Zwickau, Julius-Seifert-Straße and the SPD headquarters (Julius-Seifert-Haus) are named after him.
