Julius Witt

Julius Witt ( January 9, 1835 in Koenigsberg - December 13, 1879 in San Francisco ) was a German theater actor and director .

Life

Witt, the son of a master baker and councilor, was an extraordinarily popular comedian, whose splendid humor and drastic characterization skills earned him many admirers. He also worked as a director in Aachen, Cologne and Breslau and, after having worked for six years at the Germaniatheater in New York, took an engagement in San Francisco, where he also died on December 13, 1879.

He was married to Fanny Heuser , daughter of Ludwig Heuser . His children were Karl , Hermine and Lotte Witt . Julius Straßmann , Hermione's husband, was his son-in-law. All of the above were also stage actors.
