Julius Zumbusch (born July 16, 1832 in Herzebrock , † April 6, 1908 in Munich ) was a German sculptor and medalist .

Julius Zumbusch, brother of Caspar von Zumbusch , followed him to Munich in 1850 and became his pupil. He later continued his studies with Johann von Halbig and at the Munich Art Academy.

From 1863 to 1866 Julius Zumbusch was a lay brother in the Altötting Monastery , which he left after differing beliefs. He then settled in Munich as a freelance sculptor. There he created, among other things, portraits and monuments as well as several allegorical figures for the Munich Palace of Justice (1895–97). The first sculptural image in honor of Alois Senefelder , inaugurated on November 6, 1877, still stands today on a modern pedestal on Marsplatz in Munich.

Zumbusch was married to Emilie Hesse, daughter of the mathematician Otto Hesse , until her early death . After her death, he married her younger sister Lina.

Julius Zumbusch was buried in the Old North Cemetery (Munich).
