Julius von Bernuth (conductor)

Julius von Bernuth (born August 8, 1830 in Rees , † December 24, 1902 in Hamburg ) was a German composer and conductor.

Von Bernuth was the son of Friedrich Heinrich von Bernuth (1789–1839) and Johanna van den Broek († 1845).

After studying law, he received musical training at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1854 to 1856 . From 1860 to 1868 he was conductor of the Leipziger Singakademie and in 1860 and from 1864 to 1867 music director of the Leipzig music society "Euterpe" . From 1867 to 1895 he was director of the Philharmonic Concerts in Hamburg and director of the Hamburger Singakademie, and in 1873 he was the founder and first director of the Hamburg Conservatory.

His grave is in the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg.
