Jun'ichi Nishizawa

Jun'ichi Nishizawa ( Japanese 西澤 潤 一 , Nishizawa Jun'ichi ; born September 12, 1926 in Sendai , Japan ; † October 21, 2018 ) was a Japanese engineer who invented the pin diode in 1950 with his colleagues .

Life

Jun'ichi Nishizawa received his BS in 1948 from Tōhoku University and his Doctor of Engineering in 1960 . From 1953 he worked here at the Research Institute of Electrical Communication , in 1962 he became professor and director of two research institutes. From 1990 to 1996 he was president of the university. In 1998 he became president of Iwate Prefectural University. He was then President of Tokyo Metropolitan University .

In 1983 Nishizawa was awarded the Japanese Order of Culture . In 1988 he was accepted as a foreign member of the then Academy of Sciences of the USSR . He was a foreign member of the Polish Academy of Sciences .
