The Junction Valley (English for connecting valley ) is a valley on the north coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . On the west bank of the Cumberland East Bay it extends from the valley entrance at the Hestesletten westwards to the Echo Pass .
The name goes back to participants in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of Otto Nordenskjöld . They named the entire valley floor between Cumberland East Bay and Cumberland West Bay . Today the eastern part is called Sphagnum Valley and is connected to Junction Valley via the Echo Pass .
