The Sphagnum Valley is a valley on the north coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It extends from the east bank of Cumberland West Bay in a northwest direction to Echo Pass .
The mapping goes back to participants in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of Otto Nordenskjöld . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after 1964 after the fringed peat moss ( Sphagnum fimbriatum in Latin ) that can be found in this valley.
