Two -axle locomotives from the Jung locomotive factory were designated as the Jung VN 234 series , nine of which were produced between 1939 and 1958 and used in shunting and handover services.

The locomotives are roughly assigned to the DR small locomotives of performance class II . Some locomotives have been preserved to this day and are available as memorials or in museums.

history

The locomotives belonged to the second generation of diesel locomotives from the manufacturer Jung, which introduced its own engines and gearbox designs from 1939. The sheet metal on the vehicles has been slightly modified.

Three private railways received a locomotive each for shunting service:

Other locomotives were delivered to Werkbahnen: Rhenania-Ossag , Christoph & Unmack , Buckau R. Wolf machine factory , an ironworks in Weidenau (Siegen) , Phoenix AG for mining and smelting operations and a company in Netphen . After the Second World War , some copies were made from leftover parts.

technology

In addition to the front end, the locomotives have a step for the shunter to ride along. They have a sturdy sheet metal frame that was manufactured using a rivet construction. There are corresponding recesses in the area of the chain drive. The axle suspension is designed with external leaf springs .

The four-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine transfers its power to a mechanical four-speed gearbox manufactured by Jung. The gearbox was operated manually. The axles were driven by double roller chains. As standard, the locomotive was only equipped with a foot brake. An indirect brake has also been retrofitted on private railways .

commitment

Some of the locomotives are still available in 2020.

Neuhaldensleber Railway

The locomotive bought by the Neuhaldensleber Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft in 1939 was called the Kö 5 . It replaced Orenstein & Koppel locomotives that had previously been used because of their insufficient performance for operation on the port railway. After 1945 the locomotive was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn and was first named Kö 5736 and later 100 936-4 . The locomotive was decommissioned in 1980 and then handed over to a coal dealer in Halle (Saale) . Here she carried out the shunting service until the mid-1990s and then came to the Rügen Oldtimer Museum .

Hermann Irle GmbH

The last locomotive was sold to Hermann Irle GmbH in Netphen in 1958 . The locomotive was used for a long time by various industrial companies. The last database entry for the locomotive dates from 2020, which shows the locomotive in an inoperable condition.
