The Junge Marburger Philharmonie is a Marburg amateur orchestra founded in 1993. Over 80 members, the majority of students and amateur musicians, prepare two concerts with works of symphonic orchestral literature each semester together with soloists, which take place in Marburg and in another city. A children's concert is also organized annually in spring. The orchestra is a member of the Federal Association of German Lover Orchestras (BDLO).
Programs and appearances
From 1993 to 2018 the orchestra was under the musical direction of Friedemann Koges, Lorenz Nordmeyer, Kerry Jago, Kiril Stankow, Ingo Stadtmüller, Vladimir Askorskij, Hyun-Jin Yun, Martin Gärtner and Lukas Rommelspacher.
Rehearsed and performed were u. a. Symphonies by Brahms , Beethoven , Tschaikowsky , Jean Sibelius , Antonín Dvořák , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Gustav Mahler and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy as well as solo concerts by Brahms, Beethoven, Richard Wagner , Crusell , Edward Elgar , Tschaikowsky. There are also appearances at open-air concerts in the castle park as part of the city festival “Three Days in Marburg” to the big fireworks display. In addition, the Young Marburg Philharmonic organizes city or university celebrations. Its members are also actively involved in several chamber music ensembles in Marburg's cultural life.
Concert tours took the orchestra to France in 1997, Sweden in 1998, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2007, England in 2010, Potsdam in 2011 and Helsinki in 2014. The chamber orchestra of the Junge Marburger Philharmonie regularly gives concerts with a wide range of programs from the baroque to the modern in Marburg and the surrounding area.
social commitment
The Junge Marburger Philharmonie has been supporting the Kulturloge Marburg since the 2011/12 winter semester with a donation of 30 concert tickets per semester, which are given to interested people who would otherwise not be able to afford a concert.
