Junibacken is a museum in Stockholm that the Swedish-language children's literature , especially the books of Astrid Lindgren is dedicated. It is located on the island of Djurgården .
The museum was opened on June 8, 1996 by the Swedish royal family and is one of the five most visited attractions in Stockholm with around 400,000 visitors a year.
The focus is on the characters from Astrid Lindgren's most popular children's books, including Pippi Longstocking , Karlsson vom Dach , Ronja the robber's daughter , Michel from Lönneberga and the Löwenherz brothers , but also other well-known Swedish children's book characters such as Pettson and Findus , Willi Wiberg and the Moomins . Changing special exhibitions are dedicated to individual authors. The museum also has a children's bookshop and a theater.
The name comes from the Junibacken estate (in German Birkenlund ), where Astrid Lindgren's fictional character Madita grew up.
